As we move into March, we begin a time that students need to be reminded of the important responsibilities they have as students. It has been extremely difficult to keep their minds on school with all the weather. Let’s make sure that they know the importance of coming to school and being here every day and learning to their potential.
March is a very special month for us because we will hold Sabres Night on Thursday, March 9, 2017. It will run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Sabres Night is a very special celebration for all of us here at Stonewall Middle School because it allows us to show everyone what a great school Stonewall Middle is. The theme for the evening will be as usual internationalism which goes hand in hand with our International Baccalaureate Programme and the great diversity of our school. We will have student performances ranging from band to step team to dance to cheerleading. A great feature of the night is “Math Night”. Come see what your child is asked to know and how hard it really is. Sabres Night is a night where we show our parents all the wonderful things our students have done over the past six months with classroom exhibits. A highlight of the evening will be the tasting of many dishes from the different cultural backgrounds of our students. Recipes will be available after tasting these wonderful delights.
Our Writing SOL test will be given over two days to our 8th graders. It will be March 7 and 8, 2017. Please make sure the students get a good night sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast. These are two very important components of students doing well on their tests. We will be giving a Nutri-grain bar and a water before the start of the test to help stimulate the brain so they are ready to go
We, as parents, need to encourage our students to work hard before the break which will start April 7, 2017 so they will be ready for the reviews when they return. They need to know that the SOL tests are important. The tests are the only snapshot the state gets of Stonewall Middle School. We always want to put our best foot forward. Our school has done great things over the past twelve years and we will continue to do great things as long as the partnership between the teachers, parents and students continues to grow in our great journey for excellence.
